Alteryx is committed to being a world leader in advancing safe, responsible AI. Today, we take another step forward in that commitment with the announcement that Alteryx is joining the European Union’s AI Pact as a charter member.

The AI Pact brings together leading companies that develop, integrate, and deploy AI systems to make voluntary commitments to adopt responsible AI best practices over the course of the next year. These commitments will help accelerate implementation of the EU AI Act – the world’s first comprehensive regulation of AI systems – and enable participating companies to demonstrate their alignment with the provisions of that law.

Participants must adopt three “core” commitments:

  • Adopt an AI governance strategy guiding the company toward future compliance with the AI Act
  • Where appropriate, map AI systems provided or deployed in areas that would be considered high-risk under the AI Act
  • Promote awareness and AI literacy within the company

Beyond these core commitments, Alteryx made additional commitments under the Pact, aimed at identifying and mitigating risk, enhancing transparency and the free flow of information across the AI value chain, and ensuring human oversight and control of AI systems and their outputs.

These commitments are wholly consistent with Alteryx’s own pledge to responsible AI, which is expressed in our Responsible AI Principles. These principles guide our engagement with AI, including developing machine learning algorithms, integrating generative AI features into the Alteryx AI Platform for Enterprise Analytics, and using AI internally to improve our business processes. They include commitments to transparency, human oversight and control, and risk mitigation, among other core values. We are implementing our principles through a combination of policies, processes, and technical controls to ensure that our AI work stands on a strong ethical foundation.

Alteryx’s membership in the AI Pact not only underscores our commitment to responsible AI; it also demonstrates our work to comply with the EU AI Act – well ahead of the legislation’s entry into effect.  As the EU AI Office explains, membership in the Pact represents “a voluntary commitment to anticipate the AI Act and to start implementing its requirements ahead of the legal deadline.”  That’s exactly our approach.

Alteryx has already begun implementing a range of measures focused on compliance with EU AI Act. We have designed robust internal AI governance procedures to identify and mitigate risks, comply with relevant laws, and meet customer and other stakeholder requirements. Every AI deployment – whether internally or through our analytics platform – must pass through an AI Risk Assessment, which is explicitly designed in alignment with the EU AI Act.  Our platform’s features were designed with a “human-in-the-loop” approach to provide human control of AI outputs.  Tools like this help us meet compliance obligations and ensure that we are acquiring, developing, integrating, and deploying AI safely and responsibly.

The Alteryx platform does not incorporate AI models that are categorized as “systemic risk” models, nor have we designed our platform for prohibited or high-risk uses under the EU AI Act. With our current AI initiatives and adoption of the AI Pact’s commitments we will be well-positioned to fully meet the EU AI Act’s requirements when they enter into effect over the course of the next two years. In cases where customers wish to use Alteryx’s AI Platform for Enterprise Analytics for high-risk uses, we will provide relevant information to help them meet their business needs and regulatory obligations.

Due to our steadfast commitment to responsible AI, Alteryx customers can operate with confidence in our alignment with the EU AI Act and our determination to work with every customer to harness the incredible potential of AI safely and responsibly.
